I started with FMU in 2005 for my AA. I had filled out all of the paper work four years ago, all I had to do was renew my FASFA every year and send in my taxes. I never recieved any letters from Financial Aid or from any other "Collection Agencies."
I did this for four years with no problems at all. November I was in two of my final courses. (I was on track to graduate in April.) I recieved an alert to contact Financial Aid, and was unable to get into my classes. I called, emailed, and called again five different people regarding my finacial aid. Finally in March someone finally contacted me to let me know that I had a balance of $10,000.00.
I had informed them that I was not suposed to be making any kind of payments back to my loans until 6 months after I had graduated, which they had now stopped me from doing and taken me off track.
Financial Aid had said that some "Collection Agency" now had my file and they had been calling and leaving messages and sending me letters. This was a total lie. I had told them that after 4 years of being in school and less than 6 months to graduate I would have taken care of any problems. Whenever anything came up with paper work or promisay notes to be signed I did it right away.
Everest University has now taken away my job, I am a child advocate with the courts and they were allowing me to work knowing I was in school earning my degrees. They have also taken away my intership with one of the major court houses here in California. (I was to internship with the Prosecuting DA, that I had met while I was working on a case.) They have now also taken away my career. I have worked so hard to earn my degrees and continue my education and also show my children that you can do anything you put your mind to.
Everest University is now stating that I can continue my classes with them after I pay the $10,000.00 in full. If I want to go to another school, I have to pay the balance before they will release my credits to any other school.
I have spoken to other schools, and I am being told that if I do not win this battle with Everest, I have to start my education all over again. How fair is this.
I was am on federal grants, and loans. I have never been so hurt and upset at the same time. I am also filing a formal complaint at the top of Everest University. I have also filed a complaint with the Board of Education for the State of Florida. I will find every place there is to file this complaint. I would really like to try to get everyone together and go forward with a suite against Everest.
All I want now from them is a 0 balance and my credits. If we can all stand together I think we can do something about this University is doing to there studetns. It is unfair and so unethical.
