I received a phone call from a Dexter Marcus who immediately asked my identity and gave information about a debt I incurred 17 years ago. This debt was written off and this person demanded that I make arrangements to repay the amount.
I asked for his identity and all information I received from him, I have reported. I was intimidated by his voice and the way he spoke... Harshly, accusing and demanding. I said that it was something that happened 20 years ago, he insisted that it was not... Because he would not be able to "do anything" about it if it was that old a debt. I was not going to argue with someone on the phone, so I hung up.
During the days that followed, my phone rang quite a bit. I did not answer the phone because I was afraid it was these "people" and I did not want to deal with them... I was questioning my rights and I was frightened. I called my sister and my brother-in-law and we discussed what to do when contacted by these "people " again... Hang up, do not say anything. That is what I did, but was not contacted by them again on the phone.
I sought information on the Internet from lawyers. I was waiting for a response. When I received in the mail yesterday a letter from Capital Acquisitions & Management Company. It stated that I owed them 5 times what they say I owed them on the phone!!! This was to be almost $5000. I showed this letter to my son and he searched the Internet to see if this company even existed. That is when we found how to write this rip off report.
I am searching for information on all statutes pertaining to consumer rights and bad debts, and old debts. I saw the letter from the person in another state who had a bad experience with these people also, and i thought i should at least share my experience too. I am sure they are "scaring" alot of folks into believing that they are going to lose some of their retirement money...
