I stated at Javelin February 15with my last day being August 1. When I stated I noticed there was some problems going on with school and my class mate missing grades and going out without an instructor for several months. My instructor got there a month or two before I did so things were new to him. I started making notes of concerns I heard that I did not want to affect me and my short time there and I address them with my instructor.
My instructor address those matters with his supervisors and was unable to get me resolution so I addressed the issues myself with the dean of student starting from March. I was aware that the classroom did not have the training resources I was paying for but I was promised them as I progress in the course that I would have them available for my use and skill training.
The school promised hands on lab which was one of my primary reason to selecting them to train me to be an mcsa with a starting salary of $40-$50 thousand dollars per year base on north or south Atlanta work sites as promised by my enrolling advisor. I started with A but found they had no tools to work on the computers and I was limited to training resource. I got to networking and found the promise of providing the cables, patch pannels and routers and switches was a misconception of deceptiion. They lied.
The environment was unsafe with wires runing all over the place and broken chairs waiting to injury somebody. Sure enough a student was seriously injured in the class for which I witness by the broken chairs we had been begging them to fix or replace. More than a week after the accident the broken chairs were never fixed or replaced. I confronted the director and he said the broken chairs were replaced which was not true as I have to use a chair without a back at times because the top of the chair was broken off months ago. I also contacted OSHA that they lanched an investigation into the unsafe environment. The uses of cleaning product that lanches fumes thourghout the building that causes headaches and dizziness.
My program was to be six months long with about 3 weeks and more than a month of undone class work. I was told I will graduate on schedule without any amendment to my course and have not made the lab a place I can train and gain skills for the work place they just offer us media base courses that has limitation and I came for the hands on experience and labs they promised and unable to deliver because they may not want to spend any money and feels they can delay us with their deceptive practice until we get frustrated and quit and just take it and go away.
In our fight as a group of students to get the school to comply with our request the director Mr. Clarke as given us the run-a-round-the-bush-show. He ask me if I did not get the skills needed on the media base like learning how to do network cabling, I explain without tools and equiptment how can I do the impossible. This is not a field I can imagine doing the practical I need to practice it. We have had weekly meetings that has been ongoing for several month without no resolution. The director blames the system admin and the system admin blames the director and no one it willing to be honest and say this is it take it or leave it.
I would have left but with the promise of next week which never came I often wonder if the director and system admin Sergio knows what they are talking about or who they are speaking to. The system admin told me point blank they are not training me to be a system admin but a help desk person, I told them thats not what my contract says and I will not accept that. They are offering course and certification training for courses that certification has been expired over a year ago and when ask why they are traing us to do windows professional and windows server 2000 instead of xp professional and server 2003 they told us that its what we are paying for because they did not promise us xp and server 2003 but how can they prepare us to certify if we can't receive the triaining needed. The system admin states the old software and the new software are virtually the same with little difference.
I have never seen patch pannels, switches and routers in the lab, I have never setup a network or even touch a real server because the school has not provided them. We had to protest as an entire class to get 1 mg of ram and our text books to do our labs. They have refuse to get server 2003 license so we can use it legally in the classroom so they can save money.
They have also denied IT student externship and job opportunities for reasons of insurance underwritting according to Mr. Clarke the director. We don't have tools, resources or opportunity for experience and skills, all we have received is media base training which I have the same media base software for myself at home.
I have been exposed to instructor using foul, perverse and sexual langauge at a female classmate. I have witness the personal injury of my classmate. We have formed a student group to get some result that have not been able to get as individuals so we are fighting for what is right and fair. We want reasonable answer and solution to our problem. So I am asking all past and present javelin students with similar issues with javelin please contact us as there is strength in numbers. Javeling feels we are simply students without recourse to get our money back. Let us work together for justice for one and all.
We also welcome media coverages and interested legal powers to work with us in getting our money back. Javelin has been practicing a decepting business by stealing money from students and promising them better but better new came until the students left. I am not going to cry and walk away, I will fight until I have victory.
