Promises employment after completing high cost courses

In 2003 I was a student of a local community college seeking more than what they could offer. After doing some research, I came across Olympia Career Training Institute and fell in love with what they were offering. A few weeks later, I was preparing to start my education in their Medical Administrative Assistant program.

Over the course of the eight months I was there, I gave it my all, and come graduation time I was proud to be a member of the honors society, Deans List, the student activities board and was going to graduate with honors. All the while, the Placement department talked about all they were going to do for me after my externship was over.

My externship started the end of August and went until the end of September. It was supposed to be a full-time experience of the day-to-day responsibilities of someone a position I was seeking.instead I was sent to a nursing home/rehabilitation center versus a doctors office.instead of me learning on-the-job-training, I got training in a field I have yet to work in, or any desire to work in. The only positive thing I thought would help was the location I was sent to is linked to the biggest hospital in the Grand Rapids area.

I couldn't have been more wrong. It is now 2008 and I have yet to work in my career field. I still have a pending student loan that I've been able to defer this long due to either attending the same local community college that I was trying to get away from, or working less than 30 hours a week at a retail location.

I know of some people that went to Olympia for the Medical Assistant program or their computer technician program (s) and are doing well. I blame this on the sole factor that the Medical Administrative Assistant program is NOT hands on. It's impossible to be hands on, aside from using computer programs, raising typing speeds, etc... There really is no way for us to prove ourselves in a setting that is solely bookwork.

In no way would I ever recommend going to Everest Insititute, or any other Corinthian College facility... However many locations and names they have out there.

I'm if anyone wants to discuss this matter any further. Thanks for taking the time to read through my rage!
