Its high time all of the victims of Corinthian Schools get together to sue them for fraud and misrepresenation.
First the background information.
Corinthian schools is the parent company that runs many many other trade schools, which for years have operated under various names, such as National Education Center Campus, National Institute of Technlogy, Olympia, Everest, etc. Any number of names.
Over the years the locations have changed, the names of the schools have changed, but the method of operation has stayed the same.
This school has been routienly sued by several states and countries.
The main complaint is that it did not deliver what it promised - namely placement in a well paying job at the end of the course.
Why is that so important? Because many people ended up defaulting on their student loans as the result.
Based on my research over the internet for the last week, I firmly believe that this school has to high of a history of complaints to be allowed to continue. And that its main goal was to farm the easily accessed student loan program. The default rates for this school in the mid 1980's resulted in the rewriting of the student loan program, but that wasn't enough because the re-write did not adress the victims of the school.
I believe many of us who are victims of these shools would not have signed up for them and applied for student loans had we been given the truth about their graduation percentages, Placement percentages, and placement methods.
Webpage after webpage, state report after state report, US congressional hearing testimony, all found on the web, show a history of this abuse of the college and its subsidaries.
Left behind are the victims with defaulted student loans, loans with ever growing interest. The growing interest is creating a class of 3rd class citizens, as the Government goes after these victims, and in doing so victimizes them a 2nd time by seizing their social security payments, disablity payments, pay garnishment, etc. The people have to move around and switch jobs constantly to keep the govenrment off. We are never in a place long enough to get established and to work our way into the higher payscales, becasue if we stay at a company for longer than 2 years, the Government comes in and seizes half our pay leaving us without enough to cover our basic living expenses, all the while not one dang dime goes to paying off the principal. What the govenrment seizes, goes to the interest only.
Without being able to put money down on the principal, the Goverment is making debt slaves of the victims of this school. And nothing is being done about it.
I have found 3 congressional websits were bills are being introduced, but no help is in sight yet.
I found a number of states that have sued these schools in recent years, but that does not help those of us who are older victms of the schools.
And this school, and the ones it has owned, have been doing this for over 20 years. Thats more than 20 years of victims. What is it going to take? Its time all of us band together and petition our congressmen to demand help.
I say we sue them for the full cost of what ever our student loans are. We claim they misreprented their school, creating an invalid contract via FRAUD. And sue to get the student loans paid off.
