Hudson Valley School Of Advanced Aesthetic Skin Care 30 years in a plastic surgeons's office, stretching the truth a little, don't you think

If you are a client of potential student you may want to ask some questions regarding the procedure and the experience that Maria Furguson claims to have. She has told the students that they are not the same as other esthetiticians. She tells them since they've attended her school they are "Medical Aestheticians".

According to New York State there is no such thing. The scary part is that they are going out there with a sense of false confidence for procedures that questionable under the scope of their licenses. For that matter, what training does the school's owner have herself.

She is a self proclaimed expert. You may find it interesting that she has no medical background. She is not a doctor, Physician's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or for that matter has never even worked as an employee in a doctor's office. She has spent a number of hours over the past several years working as an independent contractor in various offices where she hasn't even had the ability to observe the surgeries on a regular basis.

OK, let's have a reality check. I was reading the experience listed next to the picture taken in a see through hot pink shirt and it claims 30 years of experience in both plastic surgeons offices as well as spas. You may have the spa experience but don't you think the public and students should know the extent of your medical training?

While working with Dr. Loomis, how many days a week did you work? I believe it is one but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

After he kicked you to the curb and you worked with Dr. Chevilea, did he have an OR in the office? Let me answer that for you, no. How many days a week did you put in there? One, if you were lucky. How many clients did you work on a day? When did you first learn how to do microderm? How many clients do you think you were seeing a day, doctor's office only, not spa.

Why did you leave Dr. Chevelia? Isn't it because he was sued after you burned someone on your IPL machine that you have not had adequate training on? Didn't she try to get $10,000 from you to get her to keep quiet? Did you have liability insurance at the time? For that matter, did you make sure you were always properly insured for all procedures done both by yourself and by students at the school?

When did you first learn how to do a TCA? I believe the first one you watched on a video was in 2000 by ICN Pharmaceuticals or was it 2001? One of those years. Did you have formal training in the procedure? How many did you assist with prior to attempting it yourself? Are you allowed to buy this product on your own or do you need a doctor to buy it for you? Do you know the systemic effects and possibly deadly side effects that some peels can cause? Do you feel you're education is the same as a doctor?

You have sent quite a bit of business to Dr. Chevellia over the years even if you knew he had never done or only done the procedure a few times before. Did you tell that to the people you referred to him? Wouldn't that be the ethical thing to do?

With all the perks you claim to offer a doctor why has it been so difficult to obtain a doctor to sign off on what you need. Why does the company Procyte which only sells to doctors sell products to you with you school's name on them? Do they know that you sell these acids to the students at huge profits? I doubt they know the risk they're being put at. What about Therapon, the company that sells Jessners' solution and Lactic acied. Do they know you resell their products also? I wonder if these companies know that your insurance doesn't cover everything? Shouldn't you tell them that?

For that matter, since your insurance company doesn't cover brazillians then why do you offer them? Does anyone know why you got rid of the purple hand piece? Without proper training it's difficult to know how to safely use these machines.in an in house emdermology training you did the entire time was spent trying to figure out how to use the various attachments and how to move the machine. Since in your training that you took you didn't retain the information you were taught do your really think it's safe for you to teach others how to do it?

The icing on the cake; THERMAGE

Wow you never cease to amaze me. A day's training ought to make you an expert, isn't that correct? It's not fair that you don't disclose this to the students as well as those you work on. The ability to state many years working with a plastic surgeon, 30 to be exact, is a deceptive practice and should not be allowed by the state. You should add up the hours and let people know just how many of them you've spent actually learning each procedure, practicing it with the direct supervision of a real medical professional, and then how many you've done successfully. A few hours a week doesn't add up to all that much when you stop and think about it.

The public and all potential students deserve to know the truth about the training that is available at the school. There is a big difference between basically knowing how to mechanically perform a procedure and knowing the systemic dangers and long term side effects that are possible.

According to New York State, an aesthetician may not peform surgical or close to surgical procedures. They are only allowed to work within specific parameters. For that reason they make different machines for doctors and Aestheticians. At the Hudson Valley School of Advanced Aesthetic Skin Care there are some machines meant for use in a doctor's office and were obtained using a copy of Dr. Cheveilia's medical license. I do not know if it was with or without his knowledge but do know that there were times his license was used without him being told about it.

When someone claims to have 30 years experience in two different modalities always question how much actual time they have spent learning and practicing each of them. The next time you have a procedure done anywhere don't be afraid to ask questions regarding the credentials of those performing it.

Better safe then sorry.
