Today, I requested to withdraw from the second to the last course I need to finish my degree.
I have had nothing but incompetent and negligent behavior from the University of Phoenix Administration and this last instructor and her supervisor. I am looking to file a class-action suit against the university for their gross negligence and financial loss I incurred due this.
There are 2 main issues: Briefly
1. Administrative negligence
Since June I have attempted to contact "my" allotted administrator to schedule completion of my degree (4 courses remaining). I left phone and email messages for her and both these worked. Her voicemail had her voice and her email worked. The next week, when I was on-site for my class, I stopped by the front desk to ask why I wasn't able to contact "my" administrator? They told me she had left the school weeks ago.
I received shrugs as to why her vmail and email didn't provide such information or why her administered lot were not invormed.
I then asked who replaced her and they gave me the card of another Rep, Sandy Walsh and Sandy Wheeler. I called and emailed Sandy with no response for another 2 weeks.
Luckily for me, an extremely helpful enrollment manager, Sarah Sandvik, was in my current class. Not only did she explain there was now a new "national" system of administration, but she also filed my insurance verification form which would not be processed online and would kick me out of school without completion. THANX Sarah!!! I had been on the phone, emailing, trying to submit this online insurance form without any support from any Uophx employee.
It was now August and I had not been scheduled for my remaining classes. I was able to contact a "national" administrator somewhere in the south. I wanted my degree over in the most expedient manner possible so I could actually go out and earn some income to support myself and my toddler son. Ryan Hada hemmed and hawed for 3 weeks telling me he did not know how to access the information I was requesting. Unfortunately, my current course ended and now I was not scheduled for any others.By September, he finally figured out to set my major to a straight MBA and schedule courses, but now, unfortunately I had missed the one starting after the last and would have to wait til October. I was without income or fulfilling my univ objectives from Sept end of October.
Furthermore, the last course had to be completed in the classroom due to the 3 directed studies limit per student. This meant the next course in my area would not be until April 4.By the end of September, all my courses to completion had been scheduled. The end was in sight and I could start planning for gainful employment and some income by June.
I completed the first on-line directed studies course easily with an excellent, informed, responsive professor, Luciano Brito through November. The next class was scheduled with Barbara Harpin.
2.instructor Negligence
Before the first class, Dec 6, I emailed her for a syllabus but never received one. I sent assignments but never received acknowledgement of their receipt. I tried to call her on the numbers listed in the contact information and left messages. The number she called me back from, her work phone, was not listed in the contact info.in fact, each time I called her on the contact info number, she requested I call on another number not listed. A bit of constant confusion, delay and miscommunication. The second assignment required specific detailed information on management theories and models and unfortunately, the book which was assigned did not sufficiently address the assignment. I spoke to Barbara about this as well as asking for sufficient idea of good references to read toward responding to the assignment. She gave me minimal feedback stating "look at Lewin's [freeze/unfreeze] model and Kotter's 8 steps". That was it. She also recommended I contact her manager and tell him the book did not address the assignment and was extremely problematic since the instructor also could not expound on the assignment or references to be able to respond adequately.
We then had a break (which also took inordinate amount of effort on my part to determine which dates were vacation and which were not. Furthermore, the class dates did not match the vacation dates specified by admin. The instructor had no clue and told me to contact the "scheduler"???)
By Jan 3, I still had no response to my first 2 assignments and I was concerned. I had left her numerous emails, vmails with no response. I finally called her manager who got in touch with her and got back w / me directing us to "work it out" and correcting my shortcuts in email (such as "u" for you as not a formal writing mechanism???)
I tried to work with the instructor and assumed she was not proficient in this topic, or the school, or both. Suffice it to say, responses, when I could reach the instructor were brief and redundant with the insubstantial information already provided. One assignment asked "where your project fits on the continuum of short-term, small-scale and long-term, large-scale changes". I called, emailed the instructor saying this is not covered in the assigned reading and I wanted clarification on this. After a few DAYS, she got back to me and said, yes, she did look at the material and indeed it is not covered in any of it!!! But this is a standard reference for project managers. Finally, she told me the differentiation in times and $ and I simply responded in the assignment with that.
I simply wanted to complete this and my degree and get OUT. No such luck. I look online and see they have moved my last class to May/June. I now have to wait an extra 3 months to complete my degree??? Without any notification.
I don't understand how an accredited university is allowed to operate like this?
In terms of this instructor, when I did receive responses to my assigments, they stated exceptional or outstanding work. No paper returned, no inline comments, no gradepoint. The last week of class I mentioned I assumed I was receiving an A and she hemmed and hawed and finally said B. When I pressed her, she said she had to go. For over 1 week now, I have been waiting for a response from her, her manager and have withdrawn from the class.
There's much more, and I have all the emails and phone logs to prove this.
How can we get a class action lawsuit going???
Just a few words of warning to the future applicants considering the uophx option.
I have tried to transfer to another MBA program.
Uophx is NOT AACSB accredited for schools of business.
AACSB. Edu
They appear to be Regional accredited. Many MBA programs are only AACSB and will only accept up to 9 credits anyway from other like schools
