I bought a printing frannchise from them and started it from the ground up. What they did was sell me inventory, equipment and software that I did not need or was outdated and obsolete. After discussing customers I would get (family and friends) they failed to inform me that the equipment that they sold me was insufficient to handle such large jobs. The training I received was subpar which you only realize when you try to operate a store.
The field support that was part of the agreement was almost nonexistent. When I was hospitalized due to heart problems they were asked for help in running the store but none was given. Other stores in the area that were older, and more profitable, did get help when they requested it. This lack of support during a crucial time caused us to have to sell the store for pennies on the dollar.
They did help with the sale and acted against my best interests at every point. I was told that I would not have to do anything during the sale and it would take about 30 days for the escrow to close. It took almost one year and documents were given to the escrow company that falsely gave my approval to things I did not know were even in the works. Obviously that cost me even more money. Over one and a half years after I gave up the store I have not been able to get my security deposit back from the landlord because my Minuteman Press rep, Dan Byers, told them in writing that I told them to give it to the new owners. I did not authorize this, it was never mentioned to me and was done behind my back. I'm in the process of going to small claims court against the landlord who, in fact, was lied to by Minutemqn Press.
My advice to anyone wanting to buy a franchise from these people is to just go to Las Vegas and put $200,000 on a single hand of blackjack. At least you have a chance at making money and you will have a better time than I did with Minuteman Press.
