I'm desperately on a job hunt, and I came across a teeny ad in the newspaper about entry-level management, and reception work. When I called, the receptionist that they ALREADY had sounded more like a sales person than a phone-answerer.
She asked me a couple of obvious questions,
Would you like to work 9-5, Monday thru Friday? (who wouldn't)
Do you have reliable transportation? (yes)
She kept saying "Awesome, " which to me was suspicious considering these are questions that anyone would answer "yes" to.
I said that the advertisement seemed intentionally evasive in the paper, and that I would like to know more about the company. Her response was that she had such a high volume of calls, that she couldn't afford the time to explain to everyone what the company was all about, and that I would find out the following day at the interview.
She told me that they were closed for the day, but that they would be accepting "open" interviews, the following day at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm. That was another red flag. She asked me to bring my resume, but it was okay if I didn't. Why would she mention it if it made no difference.
This reminded me of the kind of recruitment that CUTCO does (which from what I have expierenced is a GREAT company who's knives I wish I could afford) But, I have two kids and bills to pay comission doesnt work for me.
I got off the phone, and discussed the conversation with my mom. She and I both agreed that it sounded WAYYYY to shady. I googled it, and found this site.
What a disgusting scam.
I want to know, what my rights are and if I can still go to the "interview" and call them out on their bull in front of everyone.
