I just noticed that a company called Metro Portfolios and represented by Cohen & Slamowitz, LLP got a default jusgment and wage garnishment again me for some debt of $7200 that I don't even remember owing. I just checked my account balance with Chase one day and found out that my account was frozen.
Another account with a second bank was also frozen. I never got any summons from any court. All I saw was that the over $2000 in both my checking and savings accounts were garnished and I am left with returned checks and non-suffient fund fees by my banks, who are now on my neck calling me to zero out the negative left on my account.
On the advice of a good friend in UK, I immiediately filed a motion to vacate default judgment through another friend in New York (I live in Texas). My friend also advised not to contact the said Cohen & Slamowitz/Metro Portfolios as that would be validating the debt.
The court has gave me a date to appear for the 15th of May. I need someone to please advise me on what to do as I can't afford the fees of $1000 minimum lawyers are asking for. I am due in court next Tuesday, the 15th. Someone please HELP!
