I received a letter in August and dated August 2 with a copy of a summons dated June 5 to appear in court and I had 30 days to appear. As I had NEVER received the original summons, the 30 days were long past. The letter states that the balance due is: $6802.12 On August 18th, a woman knocked on my door, handed my wife a paper and walked away. It was a subpoena. My wife immediately called COHEN & SLAMowitz and spoke to a woman named Kelly. She said that we could repay them at $272.38 a month for the next 2 years for a total of $6537.11 My wife told her that she didnt think that we could afford that, she would have to discuss it with me but to send the papers so we could look them over. She also stated that I would NOT have to appear in court, that all that we be taken care of. We never heard from them again and have to this date not received any paperwork. My wife continued to make payments to Discover. This morning I went to the bank and made a deposit into our checking account. My wife called me at 11am to say that the only money in our account was what I had deposited, she also noticed that our checking account had a withdrawl on it and our savings accounts had been emptied. She immeditely went to the bank and they called the main office and said that the accounts had been frozen and they faxed over an "Information subpoena and restraining order" dated 11/13/07. How can these "people" get away with this? As of tonight Thanksgiving Eve we have no money to pay bills. Also in the middle of October we signed up with a credit counselor, our first payment went to Cohen & SLAMowitz on 11/1/07 and they cashed the check on 11/7/07. Cohen & SLAMowitz stated to me today that they never received this money & do not deal with credit counselling services.
