Asset Acceptance
Fraudulent billing, demand payment for 19 year delinquent account. No record of account Not on credit report ripoff

Received a letter from Asset Acceptance LLC yesterday. Letter addressed to my maiden name (last used 20 years ago) but addressed to my current address. Letter states this is a Citibank account that last received a payment in 1988. The letter states that Asset Acceptance has purchased my delinquent account. I don't even recall having this credit card.

We have never received a bill or a call from Citibank or any collection agency in the last 19 years. I have pulled copies of my credit report from 1998 and 2005. There is no record of this account, no record of any delinquent accounts and no record of any account being turned over to a collection agency.

I was so shocked when I received this letter yesterday, that I called Asset Acceptance to dispute this. They asked for the last 4 of my SSN, which I gave them. I hope that wasn't stupid. Of course, the person who handles my account was no there and no one else could give me any information about the account. They told me to call back today. However, after reading all of the information about this company, I am looking for advice on what is the best way to effectively deal with this scum once and for all.

Any advice would be appreciated. I ahve lived in the same state for the past 25 years. Since 1988, we have moved 3 times but always supplied a forwarding address to the Post Office. This has never been on a credit report in all the times we have bought a new house or refinanced. I'm suspicious.
