Let me begin by saying I never recieved any calls from the Fraudulent companies I am about to mention. So why were they taking money from me?
I don't normally check my bank account on-line, but something told me I should. I was pissed off when I discovered I had (not one, but four) unauthorized checks deducted from my account. I was able to aquire a print out of all four checks (front & back) through my on-line banking.
This is when I noticed several similarities as well as a noticable discrepancy. The personal information provided in the upper left corner did not match, the only correct part was my name (excluding my middle initial). My question is - Why didn't my bank catch that? Wouldn't that be considered against company policy?
The total amount stolen was $89.60: two were from FreedomGLD (both $9.95), one from Distinct Advantage ($19.95), and one from Teliflex ($49.95). On the back of the check I noticed they were all stamped "DEPOSIT ONLY TO 0006510299", the same account for three different companies.
I called the number provided for direct billing questions. Every number I called was like dejavu. Similarities: the first recording is identical, then your on hold for a while, finally you get to actually talk to someone but there is always music (rap) in the background, then you are asked for the number associated with the account followed by a request for your address. After giving my number on the fraudulent check then asked for me to verify my address.
I simply requested for him to verify the address he had for the number I gave. He was very persistent I provide the information. I relpied, "I already gave you the number, if you have my inforamtion you should have my address in front of you." He repeated his request. I informed him that I was on a rip-off site with his company on it. His only response... A dial tone.
I called the 800 number for official bank inquiries or verbal authorization (Guardian Processing), the only help they could offer was the numbers I had just called. Which was no help at all.
Luckily I was able to catch it before 60 days. I'm going to the bank today and filing a complaint. Hopefully it will be resolved without hesitation.
