Axia College, UOP, and the Apollo group have been causing delays in financial aid funds and acaemics that negatively affect the students and not them. When they are losing moeny, they delay in processing funds. I have chekced the NSLDS and saw funds were disbursed 3 months before they put it on my account or even told me about the funds. Here is my horrid story about my experience with Axia / UOP/Apollo grp.
From 2005 I attended UOP Online for one year. My financial aid processed immediately and i had $2000 excess funds due to me. It took many calls, complaints, and letters before they finally sent me the refund check (it took a year). After they get the money, they tell me I no longer have enough funds to pay for all my classes b4 they can reapply for aid. I was told to transfer to Axia College for my AS and transfer back becasue classes were a fraction of UOP's tuition.
I transfered in 2005 but 6 weeks into classes, they tell me they cannot accept my 24 credits from UOP (hello this is their sister school and they recommended me to transfer over). I decided to suck it up and just start over. Next they had a problem with my financial aid at Axia. It took 9 mos to process. I had over $2000 in excess funds due to me.
It took them till May to geet my refund nut after many calls, emails, and letters again. I received another refund in August 06 and was told to expect another one in Nov. 06. Well I just returned from vacation and was blocked from classes and my new disbursements were not processed yet. My MAT106 instructor accidentally gave me a failing grade when I passed her class. It took her over a week to finally send the request to change the grade.
This is a lengthy process regardless of who made the mistake or how helpful the instructors are to fix theis problem. Because of the "F" they could not release my financial aid funds and will not until my grade is changed (could take up to 6 weeks). I contacted the right personnel to ask they submit an expedited grade change so I can go back to class and get my FA fubnds released and refunded back to me (over $2000 again).
I was told I would know somethng by 12/11/06 but they still have no idea when my grade will be changed. Get this... They may deny my grade change request even though the instructor explained it was her typ-o not her changing my grade as a favor. This is BS! Why is it that I did nothing wrong but I am the only one directly affected by the instructors mistake and how could they deny my grade change request?
The personnel is hard to reach and they never have any answers. They do not care about the students or rectifying their personnel officials mistakes to reduce the affects of students. I have been asking for contact info of the Dean of Academics to sent my personal complaint but they will not give me the info. I have been kicked out of class for 2 weeks and may result in me being automatically dropped from being out of class more than 29 days.
Isn't this classic? I have even threatened leaving and canceling my loans and grants and nothingis being done. FA wont even talk to me until my grade is changed. What kind of school ignores their students when they ask for help? Contacting the Dean and other depts should be readily available for students but they will not release it to us and say our counsloer will hadle it. Myy counselor is a temp employee who doesnt know what she is doing have the time.
Why should I be the only one suffering from this by having my FA funds held and now delayed (need to by books and new computer b4 rental contract expires that has cost me over $800 around Christmas. I have one income and 5 children and now their Christmas is suffering because I don't have the FA refund to pay for the computer rental or buy a new one and have been using prosnal funds to rent this computer so I can keep in contact with the school. There is so much more to this story but this is already too lon. You get the point. If you are considering attending UOP or Axia, please reconsider, they only want your money and will give you the same hassles I have been facing since the start.
