I received a call from Area Circulation back in July 06 asking me to answer some questions for a survey that would qualify me for a drawing to win this prize and that prize. No credit card informatin was given at this time. They were questions such as what hobbies do I enjoy, or what age group I fit into. Harmless stuff.
I recieved a call the following day offering me a 6-month subscription to some magazines of my choice for a total of $37.50 per month. I thought it was a good enough deal and decided to take it. One week prior to the estimated date of arrival for my first subscription, and around some tough times with money for me, I called Area Circulation's customer service and asked if I could cancel my subscription before anything had arrived in the mail.
They said "No, but we can postpone payments until November 1,06". I told them that I didnt think I could accomodate that, yet they continued to insist that I could not cancel my subscription and that I was locked into 18 months of paying $37.50 per month, NOT the 6 months they had originally stated. Later, I found that my account had been charged anyway.
This company lies and manipulates. Their representatives twist words to lock "customers" into deals they never would have gotten into, had they told us the full story. Which is the point, I suppose.
I still have not recieved anything in the mail from Area Circulation, neither a statement nor a magazine. And, again, my account has been charged, this time, causing me to overdraw.
Thanks to those who read this and I hope the same does not happen to you.
