I was fairly excited to have submitted a resume and get a call back. I have been dumping resumes into black hole websites for a week now. I have received some strong responses, some mediocre ones, but this was exciting to get a company ready to hire at such a nice position.
Little did I know, that is until I showed up. I went in for my first interview, showed up in slacks, button down and a tie. They were very happy to see me and the gentleman that came in at the same time. This company claims to have had about 50 interviews for the position, but I was one of minimally 15-20 that day. (The posting was a month ago, why would half of everyone have interviewed for their first round on the same day) This is what raised my red flag. Not only that, but the ambiguity that this company attempted to use within the first interview. Dropping big names and big dollar signs, but the secretary wasn't dressed in a suit, and for some reason, the guys in the office wore the same suit each day that I was in the office.
Beware of fun false tales like 'You can run your own office in a couple months.' I don't care how good you are, you will not be a successful office owner in a few months. Not without preying on unsuspecting people.'Jason just opened his office' - oh really? Then what is he still doing here? Why is his girlfriend in a moth eaten ragged sweatshirt? I don't care where she's from, she should know not to wear that into a corporate dress environment especially if she is going to claim one of the 'millionaires' in the firm as her boyfriend.
So I get called back for a second interview. This is when I started really asking questions. I had to schedule a day of vacation to attend this 'all-day interview.' I knew by 11 that this was some sort of fraud. I watched the recruiter do no work of value add whatsoever. He had no list of leads. There were no signs that this was even close to a legitimate workplace. I suppose that is why at 845 when I showed up they were both suprised and not so happy to hear that I was there. I got to hear the pep-rally in the back that they have on a daily basis in order to keep the people pumped up about working there.
Just beware folks. A real job will have a real job description. A real job will never ask you to drive your car, buy breakfast or lunch for yourself on an interview, or have the 'president' walking around casually through the office as if he has nothing better to do.
