On or about a month ago I called to order a program off the television. I remember specifically the individual asking me if I wanted to enroll in some program to receive discounts and that the program is offered free for the first 30 days and then it's a fee. I informed the in the individual that I'm calling just to receive the requested information and "No" I don't want to enroll in the program because I know that I will not remember to call and cancel before the 30 days are up.
About one month from receiving my requested material I received in the mail literature regarding Shopping Essentials and stating that a fee of $19.95 will be deducted each month. I immediately called my financial institution to inform them of the illegal pending charge and then contacted Shopping Essentials explaining of the unauthorized charge.
I further asked the representative from Shopping Essentials to give me a detail of how the charge was made and she explained to me that it was done the day of my ordering the materials. I informed her as well that I know that I didn't give permission to be placed in the said program.
Again, the only way that they can get away with attempting to mislead individuals is because all of the conversation was done verbally and unrecorded. I'm now more aware of how cautious people should be especially when other offers are being made in addition to what your requesting to buy.
