Island Rec has this VIP program - you have to join with a c/c which is charged $100.00 you get 100.00 in useable checks for only their items, and later on you can get discounts ONLY if you are a member on items in their stores, and they also do a automatic renewal, and this is done I thought by the anniversary of when you joined - BUT my mistake it is done at the end of the member ship - which mine says August which I do not think is right, if you don't cancel.
Well my husband hates this store - but in the summer this is the ONLY pool place that has certain items you need for your pool. Monopoly or what? Well, we joined in May 22 - to buy a new pool liner. I used my bank account credit/debit card. Then I told the girl at the register that I was only joining now to get the discount and she told me call by August 22 and cancel and they won't renew. On July 18, I got a charge in my checking account - which caused a domino effect - Island Rec charged my ck acct - I got charged $30.00 for every POS because my bank - Astoria has to pay the POS but charge us. I did not know they were going to charge my account then and my paycheck did not go in yet. As like a lot of other people we live pay check to paycheck and budget extra items in when we can. This was not in my budget as that time.
I called Island rec immediately and after a few run around got Amanda who told me that Island Rec - were charging in error accounts early - she told me that they would reverse the $100.00 - I notice the next day all the bounced POS and that went on for a few days - for a total of $180.00. I did finally get my $100.00 back but this was too late to cover my POS or the bounced charges.
I then called I Rec and got a Jaclyn who switches me to Doreen, and she said I needed to fax over my bank statement - which I did. I gave her about a week called Doreen back and she said the accounting dept wanted more - so I went to my bank and got more - I faxed this over to her - On 9/28/06 she told me that it would take a little longer than she thought because the owner was in Europe and the account dept was out on vacation.
This went back and forth until I called her on 10/7/06 and Lisa told me Doreen got fired - what a shock - so I got a Garret this time and he told he could not find her paperwork and I needed to fax it all over to him - which I did. Garret then left a message on my answering machine which said my refund would be to me in 8 day or so. I waited and called Garret back on 10/24 - and was told Garret quit. So I got a Brian and he said he couldn't find Garret's file - but he had Doreen's and I was only entitled to $150.00 and I should read my agreement and it says that they can charge my account the renewal on or about Aug 22- which if I showed anyone the paper - IT DOES NOT SAY THAT. And there is NO real agreement... Brian said I should get my refund - if I agree to $150.00 on or about Nov 9 or 10th. I then asked him when I call back after those date - is he going to be there or is he going to quit or be fired. He then told me he has been with IRec for 10 years and he was not going anywhere. He wasn't very nice.
So as of today I am waiting for my refund check. My next step is Small Claims. I know I'm not the only person that has gone though this. How can they keep on doing this to us? But you know they will as long as they have the Monopoly on pool supplies.
ISLAND REC'S VIP PROGRAM DOES NOT TREAT THE CUSTOMER LIKE A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON
Also when I called today to get an address to the Corporate office - I was told that the public was not ALLOWED that information only a P.O. Box # and they only # to call was 516-520-1860 - which was a general #, WOW, WHAT ARE THEY HIDDING? Too many complaints?
