I recieved a call on my cell phone offering me $12,700.00 for a free grant. All I had to do was give them an accountant number and routing number for my bank. I refused and asked to speak to a supervisor.
When the supervisor came on the phone, and I started questioning him about the company, he informed me that unless I gave them the information they needed, that I would recieve in the mail a letter of denial from the US Goverment offices out of Washington D.C. I gave them NO information.
I told them that since they already had my mailing adress to go ahead and just send me the check and I would cash it. He said that they was afraid that the check would get into the wrong hands. But the funny thing is, they had my cell phone number and my mailing address along with my name.
My cell phone is NOT in my name or listed under my mailing address. It belongs to a friend! When I asked them how they got my name, address, and cell number they told me from where I filed taxes, well, I havent filed taxes in my name in years and when I told them that, they said it was where my husband filed last year. My husband and I have been seperated for almost 2 years, and we have different addresses.
I threatened to phone the proper authorities and they told me to go ahead and check them out. I hung up on them and called my local sheriffs department, who told me that unless they called me back or unless I had given them any information, that they could do nothing about this. I guess I was one of the lucky ones who wasn't about to fall for their scams.
