On October 18 I moved into a storage unit located at 2775 Foothill Blvd.in Rialto, California. I had a storage unit on hold and when I got to the facility all was well with the first unit. After loading the first unit, my movers had discussed with me that I needed another unit. I went into the office and spoke to a man by the name of James. I only wanted one unit and he gave me several suggestions one of which was to remove all items from the original unit and move into another unit two times the size minus 80 square feet.
I went back to the movers and had warned them that all items needed to be moved that day into another unit so that all of my items remain together. With some hesitation and some lunch, the movers agreed to help me out and move my items. When I got to the storage facility James was about to go on lunch when I stopped him because unit 325 that he had for me was not available due to the manager's use and them not clearing it from their computer.
My movers and I waited aproximately 20-30 minutes longer for another unit to move into. James found unit #217 and we proceeded to move in; however, upon arriving at the unit my movers noticed that the square footage was not correctly stated and needed to know if they are to move into this one or to wait. I stopped James once again and he apologized profusely for the headache that was created. Because it was at the end of the day, my movers being tired and James being tired as well we both decided to take unit 217.
James advised me that he was very sorry and I have no problems with him. He tried to make things right by offering me this unit for free. He also told me that it would be one month free. I paid an additional 25 dollars to pay for the larger unit on this day to make a total of 139. I walked away with a smile on my face thinking of what great service I had recieved from this gentleman because I did not ask for him to give me a unit for free. He offered it to me because of all the problems that had occured.
October 20, I began recieving phone calls from UHaul concerning payment for the units. I spoke to the manager, Ingrid, desperately trying to convey to her what had happened on that day and that I did not owe for the second unit because it was offered to me for free. She became enraged and began arguing with me. She then said "Let me look this over and I will get back to you." I said ok and left it at that. She called me back a few minutes later and told me that my one month free was up and that I owed. I told her that her information was wrong and that we need to come to some type of conclusion.
On October 25, I walked into the location at 230pm to resolve the matter. Right as I walked into the office, Ingrid rudely says to me "Are you here to make a payment?" I said "Not until I see a contract." She became unsettled at that point and became agitated with me. I waited for another customer to leave before proceeding with the conversation.
Ingrid pulled out two copies of my contract where neither one was the final contract I signed with James at the end of the day on October 18. I had signed several copies that day and have proof of these transactions but not with me at the time.ingrid became combatitive with me while trying to tell her what was going on. She refused to listen, all she wanted was her money and did not care to listen to my side of the story.
She threatned to call the police and she did that although no police ever showed. While on the phone with the police she also called her General Mangager Pamela Langely. While waiting for the police to arrive some very harsh language was used on both ends. I made some very rude comments out of frustration. Also while standing there, Pamela shows up. I was facing the door while she was verbally attacking me and there is proof of this on video surveillance.
While I am waiting she says to me "Why are you still here, why dont you just leave" I told her that I would like to wait for the police because I feel that it's my right. She told me that I didnt have to wait and tried to talk me into leaving. While standing facing the door while I am on the phone with my boyfriend, Pamela started mocking me and making the situation worse. She made several rude comments regarding my occupation. She said "Youre a teacher, youre cursing. Some teacher you are" I told her that I am very good at what I do and that she needs to shut-up. She kept on saying some very rude things to me and laughing at me. I said to her, "you think this is a laughing matter because I dont. I take this very seriously." She then told me that she takes "everything very lightly." As she was saying all of this I began to yell at her to try and get her to bequiet. I cursed at her only because she was mocking me. She then proceeded to tell me, "I will not accept your payment, you have until tomorrow at 5pm to remove your belongings."
The following day, I got on the phone and was given the run around. Apparently there is no one above Pamela and they stand behind her every word. I was given the option to sign another contract to remove my items by 11-6-05. When asked about this contract they told me that I had better sign or they will be selling all of my items at an auction. I signed their contract under diress and gave them a full payment for both units. As soon as I wrote the check, they said that they are going to mail me my check back refusing me my rights. My original contract states that I have 28 days until lock down.
I need help. On a whim this manager decides to kick me out just because she deems me a b*t*h. There is something wrong with this and I need assistance from someone other than UHaul.
