Sweepstakes Clearing House
Ripoff I ordered an IBM Desk top computer with windows 98 and mega software for $549.00. When I received the computer, it was an out of date IBM with windows 95 and a DOS floppy Disc drive

In Feb. I received a voucher to use on Merchandise, I ordered what was described as a IBM Desk top computer with windows 98 and mega software for $549.00. When I received the computer, it was a IBM with windows 95 and a DOS floppy Disc drive. I contacted a local repair shop, whick informed me the computer was considered out of date. The next day I shipped the computer back by UPS.

In the middle of Jan. I received a mailing from Sweepstakes Clearing House with a voucher to use on several merchandise. At the time, my daughter was wanting a computer, and I had gone to our local computer store, and they were just too expensive. It just so happened that in this voucher from Sweepstakes clearing house, they had an IBM computer.

The description said IBM Computer with intel processor 16/32 ram, ect. With Windows 98, and 150.00 mega software package. After check discount, it came to 549.00 with shipping. I took my tax refund out of my savings and wrote a check. Feb. 18th I received the computer from UPS. I took it into my office and got it all set up to surprise my daughter, when she got home from school.

When we turned on the computer, I noticed that the IBM had the old dos floppy disc drive. When the screen powered up, Windows 95 appeared. I immediately called Sweepstakes Clearing House, where I got a computer voice, and entered my account number and I finally was able to talk to a live person after 1 hour of being on the phone.

I was told I would receive my windows 98 disc later, it was out of stock. My daughter came home, done some homework, and we shut down the computer. The next day, my daughter turned on the computer, and went to Disny.com. She was playing a game when all of sudden the computer just went black.

I couldn't get the computer to turn back on, so I called our local computer repair man, and he said that Windows 95 basically crashed when it turned to the year and that this computer wasn't updated to run in 2002. I should send that computer back and get my money back. On Feb. 20, UPS came and got the computer.

I called Sweepstakes clearing house and informed them I was not satified with the computer and I had shipped it back. Sweepstakes clearing house had not deposited my check yet, so I called my bank and had a stopped payment done. I called Sweepstakes Clearing house and they noted my account that the computer had been returned and I put a stopped payment on the check, and Sweepstakes Clearing House said they would destroy the check. On Feb. 24 at 10am. I recieved confirmation from UPS, that Sweepstakes Clearing House had received back their joke of a computer.

On Sept. 20, I received a call from a collection company stating that Sweepstakes Clearing House had turned me in for an unpaid balance of $549.00. I tried to explain to Mr. Harvy from the collection company, that I didn't owe Sweepstakes Clearing House a dime, because I returned the computer. His reply was do you have proof. I sure do I told him.

Now I have to send faxes of UPS documentation, that Sweepstakes Clearing House indeed received back their product. I strongly believe that something needs to be done to take this company out of business. There is probably thousands of people out there that is a victum and they don't even realize it.

The thing that gets me the most, is Sweepstakes Clearing House signed for the computer when it was returned, but they have no record of ever receiving it. Plus they waited 3 years to say they didn't receive the computer. How Convienant! UPS, informed me that they recycle tracking numbers every 18 months. Thank goodness, they keep delivery address information.
