I received an overdraft notice from a bank account I was in the middle of closing. I had left the account open to make sure all direct deposits had been transferred to a new account. When I opened the notice I called my bank first thing.
The bank said that there was a charge from Simple Escapes which caused the overdraft charge. I refused the charge because I had cut up my debt card almost a month ago. He looked in the history of my account and saw that the month before there was a charge also. Both of $9.95.
When I asked the man for the contact information for Simple Escapes he explained that there was only a 800 number. And also informed me that another charge was done the month before last of the same amount. The bank would look into it but I would have to call the number provided to verify that I did not make those charges. So I called the number.
After waiting on hold for 45 minutes I finally got an operator. Victoria. She informed me that I had signed up for this service, but would not explain the services. She said that they received the information when I signed up for a free trial with classmates.com.
I told her that I was fighting the charges and wanted a full refund for that last three months. That is when she admitted that they had been charging my account for 7 months. After I found out all this information I was very upset. The lady said she would refund all the money, but she would not pay for any financial situation that occured because of the mistake.
After reading everyone elses complaints I do not understand how this company is getting away with this. Is there anything anyone can do. Is there a class action suit going on? Somebody please fill me in with the details.
