Last summer around July. I received a call on my cell phone from a company. They said that I could receive free magazines and then pay a small amount of money if i wanted to continue. Stupidly I agreed, I was only 19 so I was kind of naive. Just as they promised Joshua (another customer filing a complaint on this website) they promised they would send two free gifts, one of them a lady's watch. They also said that I would be in a drawing that occured that following October for grand prize of $ (I forgot how much) and that they would contact me. They never sent the watch or contacted me about a grand prize. (False Advertisement)
When August came I received a bill of $39.99. They started billing me for magazines I haven't even received yet. I was suppose to get 7 magazines. I foolishly paid the money for that month and the following months. I finally relized that I was being charged too much for those type of magazines. The magazines that I received should have been at least $25 or less.
Around November I called them and asked could I cancel. They told me that I had a verbal contract to pay them $39.99 a month for 2 years. That is a total of $956.76 for 168 magazines. I didn't agree to a two year contract on the phone with these people. To pay them that much money for 168 magazines is outrageous.
I asked them if there was a fee for cancelation and they told me no. They said I would have to continue to pay them. This is where it gets interesting. If you read Joshua's complaint about CRC on this website. They never denied him cancelation! Isn't that crazy. Why now is it a problem for me to cancel? Another thing they sent me a list of magazines to choose from. Magazines are different prices depending on the type. All the magazines I got you could get a grocery store. So how could they precharge for a certain type of magazine regardless of it's real cost. I don't pay them anymore, their interest is like $15 for not paying on time. My bill is now $333.42 and going up. I feel if they lie and deceive people by false advertising and unfair cancelation policies then I have the right to not pay them! They promised me a lady's watch and i never received it so were even i guess. Their bill collectors are harrasing. They call every day and I do mean every day. If I save my messages i know it has to be like 50 calls.
They got my number through a credit card number. I want people to be careful and protect themselves from fraudulent companies like CRC. And credit card companies should not give people your personal information
