The VA was servicing my loan well all the time. Then, they hired Seasons Mortgage Group to service it on their behalf. Seasons messed it up by paying all the property taxes to the house next door, which only differs from our address by 1/2. This happened for the entire time Seasons serviced the loan, then they went out of business and the VA then hired CountryWide Home Loans to service it. We never knew there were liens on the property due to back taxes which were incorrectly applied to the wrong house due to Seasons mistake. (That house next door was eventuall foreclosed on and abandoned because the owner never paid his taxes or mortgage.)
We were paying our mortgage (which includes the taxes and interest) timely every month without fail and at the end of the years Seasons would send the interest and tax statements.
So, we figured everything was fine. Bottom line: Newark Tax Dep't put the house in foreclosure and when we contacted the VA, they said to contact CountryWide. You would think that since CountryWide took over for Seasons that they would have the obligation to correct Seasons mistakes. But, they evaded the issue for 3 years then paid off the liens and charged it to us in one lump sum. We protested, but they said pay up or be foreclosed on, that neither they nor the VA will take up the responsibility for Seasons mistake.
Nor will Newark Tax Dep't correct it without the records. Countrywide stalled us saying they'll look for Seasons records but then doublecrossed us by foreclosing on the mortgage for the lien money. We got a lawyer, but apparently he's no match for their big lawyers, as they've been stalling him for 15 months since foreclosure saying they'll fix their records as he pointed out that they're responsible for Seasons errors.
Anyway, to make a long story short, this is a messed up situation. Can anybody help with this? My 80 year old mom shouldn't be sent out into the street due to other people's mistakes. Thanks for your time.
