Government Grant Information Guide
Ripoff

I received a call from a man "Adam Smith" with a thick accent (obviously not an Adam Smith!) saying I was going to be the "Lucky recipiant of $8000 in government grants". This sounded good so I let him keep talking.

He asked if I was over 18 and a taxpayer. I knew from prior experience that the government didn't give out free money without a lot of paperwork! The government just doesn't give out free money (especially that much) without proof of what you'll spend it on!

I asked for information in the mail so I could look it over. He said I would get it in 7-10 days. Then he asked for my bank name and routing number, which I gave him. Then he asked for my account number. I didn't give him this because of all I had heard in the media about scams. I told him no. He asked if I trusted my bank. Of course I do, I said, but I don't trust you. I told "Adam" that I need more proof that this is legitimite and he had none.

I asked for a website because the government has numerous sites to look at all kinds of issues. He said there was no site. At this point he was arguing with me about trusting my bank and that there would be no information sent to me unless I gave him my account number. I told him this is where I stop talking to you and hung up.

I was glad to read on this site that others were called and I was right that this was a scam.
