On Thursday, November 4 around 12 pm, my wife received a phone call from a "so called" collection agency saying that I had an overdue account from Montgomery Ward and they were wanting to settle it. This was at least the second or third time they had called but we thought it was taken care of since we hadn't heard from them in awhile. We figured maybe they had found the right party who owed the debt.
The lady was very rude to my wife and was insistent that we settle this account. The lady on the phone even gave my wife a social security number that was not mine or even close to it. She also mentioned the middle initial "E" which is not mine either. My wife tried to tell the lady that this was a different Mark Miller but she insisted that she had the right person. She went on to tell my wife that her reports didn't lie and that I was the person she was looking for. My wife asked to speak to her supervisor, so she reluctantly put another lady on the phone, and my wife explained the same thing to her.
The supervisor said they would look into it further and would maybe be getting back with us. My wife also asked them what the "supposed" item was we had purchased at Montgomery Ward and the lady said she could not disclose that information. We have never had any kind of credit account with Montgomery Ward so we were very suspicious of all this and wondered if this company was legitimate. My wife also told the second lady that if they didn't stop calling us, we would be contacting a lawyer.
That same day my wife called a friend of ours that is a lawyer, and after doing some checking, he found out that this company is indeed a fraudulent collection agency and advised us to file a report with you.
