Omaha Door & Window Company
Fraudulent, dishonest, discriminating, takes advantage of women, cheap, slow to resolve - if they do, ripoff

We moved into a brand new Celebrity Home in Willow Springs Housing Division in Bellevue, NE, in April. Our garage door always sounded a little strange - i.E. Loose.

On April 21, my twin children, Forrest and Brianna, who were only 6 at the time, opened the garage door with the garage door opener. Immediately the garage came tumbling down on our car in the garage, spewing the garage door drums all over the garage.

We called Omaha Door & Window, who were the original installers, to come and repair the door. The man that came out to repair the door said that the person that installed the garage door was a new employee and didn't know much about the trade yet.

I called Greg at Omaha Door and stated I thought they should reimburse us for the damage to our car. It took many of my phone calls for him to do anything. I felt like he was taking advantage of me because I was a woman.

Finally, on 2/21, almost a year later, he sent an insurance man - Dan Stetzel (1-712-563-9969), out to appraise the damage and gave us a check for the repairs, which the amount of the check was not even close to the real damage. He said that alot of the damage was from previous accidents, which it was not. My husband was laid off from Qwest at the time, so we used the check to help pay our mortgage.

Then, on June 17, the garage door fell again when the kids were opening it. The drums flew again.

I looked in the phone book for Omaha Doors phone number and called all that I could find. No one answered - for hours. I finally called some other companies.

Precision Door came out. He inspected the door and parts. The drums were the wrong size for the cable and had been caulked - both, in many places. They were torn to shreds.

The tracks were also too long. He used to work for Omaha Door and told us what a lousy company they were. He fixed everything for us and was very professional - he even gave us a break on one of the tracks and his time.

Our bill was $278.09. I called Omaha Door the next day and talked to Greg again. He said that he would look into the situation and call me back, which I don't know why I let him get by with that.

About a week later he called back and said that he didn't know about the garage door falling the first time, which was a lie because I had only dealt with him. He also said that the last time they came out was on 2/21 to lubricate the door, which is the date that the insurance man came to appraise our car.

I feel like I was discriminated against and taken advantage of by Omaha Door & Window - specifically by Greg - because I am a woman.

I think they have cheap products, and don't care how they initially put in the doors or repair them. I don't consider caulking the drums a repair job.

Their business practices also stink. It took almost a year for Greg to take action after the first time the garage fell.

I also think it is tacky that when I called them the second time the garage door fell that no one was there to take a call -that, I believe is fraudulent advertising. I feel Greg was very rude to me, and I told him on the last phone call that I would be calling Mike McKnight at Channel 6 News. He said "ok". I called Mike McKnight and he asked me if I had any documentation. I told him I would look and I called him back to tell him that I did and I also kept the drums for proof. Mike then told me to contact the BBB, otherwise he couldn't help. Luckily, in both situations the twins were not hurt - just very scared. I believe they should pay legally for false advertising, too.
