Oakwood Homes & Oakwood Acceptance Corp. Ripoff Crooks Have Ruined My Credit & Happiness

I ordered a home from Oakwood Homes in Greenville, SC in June. We were told by the salesman that our payments would not be above $500, as that is all we could afford. We were told to give our landloard the 30 day notice.

When our home did not arrive, our landlord gave us 30 more days. We were told our house would be here by then. When our home did not arrive they called our landlord and asked him for 15 more days, the landlord agreed, but at an additional cost to us and we had to move out because he had new renters.

Well our house did not arrive. We were told to get a hotel room and they would reimburse us. They told us it would only be 2 weeks. After 4 and 1/2 weeks they finally had our house set, but we still hadn't closed.

We could not afford the hotel room any longer. Our credit cards were maxed out and all of our other bills were behind because of the extra expense of living in a hotel. They told us to go ahead and move in on Sept 19. We moved in.

Every week when I inqured about a date for the closing the told me next week. Then on Oct. 25 the general manager of the sales center called us and told us we had to sign the papers. Our payments were $829, without the land. (This was supposed to be a Land/Home deal.) I told him NO WAY. He said his boss was going to be in town the next day and he would get fired.

I finally agreed after he begged and promised to help get us refinanced before we ever had to make a payment. I closed on Oct. 26. Then the land owner wanted payed.

I was not able to get financed because of recent slow pays on my credit report. (Due to Oakwood causing me to live in a hotel for nearly 5 weeks.) Finally my grandmother lent me the money for the land.

In addition to the outrageous payment the house was not what we ordered. Basic green carpet instead of high grade burgundy. Our house was broken into prior to us moving in and the tv, stereo, and vcr stolen. When the thieves stole the entertainment center they tor the vinyl floor in the kitchen and laundry room.

The outside trim remained inconmplete for about 9 months. Everytime we had a service date scheduled they would not show up. They never lifted a finger to help with refinancing, which I tried to do on my own and couldn't due to the past slow pays and difficulties making the $829. Mortgage payment each month. I called Customer Service repeatedly and got no where fast. They called every month and left rude messages on my voice mail reminding me my payment was late.

Finally after having 2 days of service scheduled and they only showed up with 2 items (a bathroom mirror and cafe doors) on 2 large trucks I called and asked to talk to the president or CEO and was denied. I was able to get his name on my own and called the company directory and left him a message stating my story.

Dwayne Daggot then President/CEO returned my call on a Saturday afternoon. He asked what could he do for me. I told him I wanted what I was promised. Low interest rate, $500 per month payment, and all the flaws in my home repaired. Well we got refinanced finally. Dwayne Daggot left and we began getting harassing phone calls saying we didn't have homeowners insurance. This caused us not to be able to make payments because they could not put our loan on the books unless we had homeowners insurance. I gave them all the info and continued to be harrassed at home and work.

They did eventually replace the carpet with a medium grade burgundy and finished the trim outside, but left a lot of items still needing repair, including the vinyl floor and kitchen drawers that don't roll correctly. They were to schedule another visit when the parts came in and we have not heard from them since July.

Now I have found out that they have reported that the first loan was 150 days late and they told us not to worry about it if we couldn't afford to make the payments. (This is after the CEO told OAC to refinance us and bill the cost to the sales center.) Then they have reported the new loan past due even though they were the ones who extended the first payment date to Nov. 2001.

This company has ruined my credit and happiness. I can no longer afford the little things in life due to the debit I have incurred trying not to loose my home. Now I need car and can't get a loan because of them.
