Sim's Furniture Galleries Aka Sims Furniture Aka Bassett Furniture Direct Aka Sims Furniture Gallery
Ripoff, fraud, second quality furniture at first quality prices, bad customer service

My husband and I purchased over $7000 in furnture from Sim's Furniture Galleries in Hudson, Florida in February. One of the items purchased was a "special order" Bassett chair ($639) which was delivered with a hole in the back which was marked with masking tape. Another piece, an Ashley Furniture china hutch ($1200) which was obviously used (smoke film on the glass, dirty and debris inside the glass doors, shims shoved under the top to make it level which were glued in rather sloppily, doors that did not shut properly, drawers that did not work properly, and in FILTHY condition). The very day the items were delivered I called Sim's furniture. They did not return my call until the following Monday, which covered their 48 hour return policy (how convenient).

I made numerous phone calls until I finally got a call back and a promise someone would come out and inspect the damaged furniture. The repair contractor did come and said the cabinet could not be repaired (no kidding) and that the chair could. I was not satisfied with repairing a $639 special order chair since it was obviously known to Sim's that it was damaged but they did not care or offer any other solution. I spoke to the general manager, Pete, who promised to send me an new china hutch and to have my chair repaired ASAP. That was mid-April.

Three weeks later, after calling them repeatedly about my china hutch and chair repair, I was informed my hutch was ready for delivery. They sent only the top piece.interestingly enough, THAT piece is also warped and the doors do not close correctly. It was noted on the delivery sheet, which I refused to sign, that the repair contractor was to look at that item as well. The repair contractor made an appointment to repair the chair, but did not show up for that appointment. We have not heard from him since.

I got a call from Sim's furniture saying they had a piece to be delivered. The woman on the phone was completely uninformed about what she had for me and I said I was not accepting delivery of the bottom of the piece when the top I had was warped and needed replaced. I have not heard from Sim's furniture since that time (may) despite leaving numerous messages for them to contact me about this furniture.

I contacted the manufacturers of the pieces I have received and was told by Ashley furniture that a piece in that condition would have been sold to Sim's as a factory second quality piece and I think it is clear that they have defrauded me out of $1200 for a second quality cabinet. Bassett furniture has assured me the chair will be repaired, but 5 months later I still have a $639 chair with a hole in it.

I want those two items removed from my home and my money refunded in the amount of $2011.88

I am contacting the state attorney's office and filing a report with them, have filed with the BBB, and am filing this here. When I relayed that information to the general manager, Pete, his response was "do what you gotta do". Very impressive customer service.
