Mr. Bryan gave us a reasonable estimate for the kitchen remodel work. My husband and I agreed to pay him 40% down, which Bryan said was for 'materials'.
He is a very glib talker, who changes the subject when asked for specifics: mostly to personal, family matters.
I asked him to itemize and to provide me with receipts each week. He suffers from short term memory when called to account for his charges.
We agreed to pay him a 'salary draw', but also that his workers would be onsite from 8:00 wach morning until 5:00, with a one-hour lunch break. He also promised to be on-site each day.
In reality, they came 3 days out of 5, arrived as late as 10:30 and left as early at 2:00.
When I asked Mr. Bryan about the cost for non-existent labor, he tried to out-talk me. I showed him the series of digital photos I had been taking since pre-demolition. That's when he began to talk about 'change-ups' that my husband and I had allegedly made. The only changes were that he did not pay his crew, so they refused to return.
We paid him $19,864 between June 2 and July 9. We have: no front door, no electrical, no plumbing, unfinished walls, ceiling, damaged landscaping.
He had the last 'worker install stone tile (which we bought) in all the areas where the new cabinets will go next week.
We refused to pay him in advance for a plumber to come and connect the appliances, and that's when he stopped returning our calls.
We expect no renumeration or solution; I want to warn others to avoid him.
