Colonial Home Warranty
The $100 Dishwasher Internet

Back in December, called Colonial because of issues with the control panel on our dishwasher. We had bought the home about 6 months earlier, and had chosen Colonial because they also covered the septic system.

They sent a contractor out, who was pretty straightforward. He said the best option was to replace both the control panel and the heater. This agreed with the error code I had pulled out of the dishwasher. Note - the dishwasher is a major brand, usually lasts 10 years or more, and had been installed 5 years ago. I have the original paperwork from the former owner. I paid him $45 and he left.

I waited a week, then called the contractor back. He stated that Colonial had decided to replace the dishwasher instead of repairing it. Colonial never called, so I called Colonial. I was told that they had "totaled" the dishwasher, and would be sending me a check for $160 and some change to replace and install the new dishwasher. If someone out there can point me to a new dishwasher, installed, for $160, I would appreciate it.

First, Colonial said they would sent out a letter listing the terms of the agreement. I was to sign that and send it back to collect the check. After 2 more weeks, I had not received a letter. Called Colonial back, they verified the address, and said it would be sent out that night. Waited another week, no letter. Called Colonial, and they said they had sent the letter to the correct address, but that they would send another that night. Another week goes by. I have been without a dishwasher for over a month. No letter. I go to Lowes and buy and install a new dishwasher.

Next call to Colonial, and they have no more information. Sol. So, I go to the T&Cs and find out I have to notify them of the issue, agree to arbitration, and ask for more information. Another month goes by. It is now March.

I have spoken to almost every real estate agent and closing company in this area. Never use Colonial for home warranties. This is my 5th home warranty company over the past 30 years, and the only one that has treated me like I'm one of PT Barnum's suckers. Which I must be if I chose this company.
