I found an office chair I wanted by a specific manufacturer in NC. I saw the chair in a showroom, sat in it, learned about the features, and then contacted this company as they were one of the only other companies I could find that worked with that specific manufacturer. I sent them a link from a website with a picture of the chair I wanted to buy and described to them over the phone the specific functions I was looking for (specifically the tilt/lock feature). They quoted the chair and the price was reasonable so I placed an order.
The terms were 50% upon order and remaining 50% upon delivery, all payments via paypal. When the owner of the company delivered the chair I began inspecting it to make sure everything worked before he left. I noticed there was a control stick missing under the chair to lock it into place when it tilts (this is a unique feature to this chair and the specific reason for buying this particular one). When I asked the owner about it he just looked confused and said he would take it back and talk to the factory to see if they could fix it.
The owner emailed the next day and said they would fix it but it would be an additional $95. I asked if he was paying it since it was their mistake and he refused and claimed it was my mistake and that i never told them I wanted that feature. He also claimed that i was lying about speaking with anyone there and that all of our communication had been via email. I tried to refresh his memory of our discussion as it was only 4.5 weeks - but he wasn't hearing any of it. So, i pulled phone records and showed him where I had made 2 different calls to his company.
I then offered to pay half of the $95 just so I could get the chair and be done with this company. He still refused. So after more days of arguing I gave in and again, said i'll pay the $95 just to be done with the company. At this point the owner, who has my chair and my money - says he'll have to "think it over and talk to some people and will call me later." (??!! This is the owner of the company??!!)
So, Buyers Beware - Do NOT do business with Hughes Rankin Co.inc in High Point, NC or Robert (aka Bo) Cecil — unless you are looking to get ripped off.
