Purchased Coleman Powermate Air Compressor model # BL0502710 a 27gl vertical electric oil less from Sam's club in the late 1990's so definitely out of warranty
I would venture there is maybe 30 hours total run time on the compressor if that.
Until a problem developed last week, I was unaware it was of an OPEN bottom design, as plastic shielding prevents you from really seeing underneath side of compressor unit. This design allow for dirt and dust particle to be attracted to the lower edge of the cylinder where the piston ring can drag it up into the cylinder scratching the cylinder.
Last week I noticed it would not build enough air to shut down at any regulated pressure. So I removed the plastic shielding, removed the cylinder head and piston and ring. I noticed a lot of scratches in the cylinder from dust being drawn in from the bottom, and one major gouge where a piece of the piston ring had broken off and gouged the cylinder.
Called customer parts, they have a third party that sells parts. The piston, ring, cylinder kit is $79. Based on how cheaply made, should be about 1/2 that price.
Because I am an individual consumer and don't have an account with that company $9.00 handling fee. Standard 3-4 day ground shipping was $20.00 should only be $10 to $12 as you already have handling fee separate.
I figure the prices for parts, handling fee and shipping is outrageous! Their cheap open ended design contributed to the problem! Harbor freight and even Northern Tool have better pricing and customer service. I will NEVER recommend anyone buy a Coleman Powermate product again. I'm scared how much it might cost me for parts for the generator I also own!
