Two years ago I bought an expensive leather recliner (about $1000) from Macy's. The sales person talked me into buying an extended warranty (about $125) to cover any damage to the furniture, such as rips, stains or blemishes. What a sucker I was! Several weeks ago we noticed a large discolored blemish about 8 inches in diameter in the leather where the back of one's head touches the head rest. I called Macy's and they gave me the number to call for warranty repairs. When I called warranty repiar, they did the 20 question routine and then told me the blemish was due to hair oil and therefore would not be covered. They did not offer to send a technician out to inspect the cause of the blemish. So in essence the extended warranty was simply a Macy's rip-off. Subsequently I hired a leather repair porfsssional who expertly repaired the damaged area for about $160.00. Word to the wise. Stay away from extended warranties, particularly at Macy's. They are nothing but smoke and mirrors.
