Don Benedict Took our money & ran!

My husband informed Don that we needed to remove the existing tile flooring in both bathroomsdown to the concrete in order for our insurance company to come in & inspect for access holes in our concrete. Don & another employee arrived at my home at 9:45,45 minutes late, & began working until 1:30 that afternoon. He finished removing the tile & requested a payment in the sum of $1000 for removing the tile in the master & hall bathrooms & to return to replace the tile. He informed me that we would not owe him anything else for the job except we would need to furnish the tile for the bathrooms when he returned for installation. I wrote him a check for $1000, and he left & went & cashed my check immediately per my phone call to the bank 30 minutes after he left my home.

When my husband got home & inspected the work he was frustrated at the lack of complete removal of the remaining glue, which will not make it possible for our insurance company to inspect the concrete as intended. My son used the restroom in the hall bathroomafter they left& discovered the toilet leaking at the base upon flushing. The toilet was resting on pieces of old ceramic tile that our plumber had placed it on until we have our tile replaced. For some reason Dons employee removed all the pieces of tile that our toilet was resting on. My husband was also very disgusted with the huge mess they left behind. They actually stuffed some trash behind my dresser!

I called Don to inform him of the complaints we had & he said he would come over the next morning at 10:30 & take care of the toilet that was leaking & remove the remaining glue as initially intended. Also later that afternoon we noticed that upon removing the hall bathroom tiles they had chipped out a piece of the hall tile by accident. At 10:45 the next morning he had not shown up or called so I called him & he said he got tied up on another job & asked if he could come the next day, Sunday, after lunch. I said that was fine & he said he would call me & give me a time so we wouldn'tt have to waste our day waiting on him. I began calling him on Sunday at 10:45 & never got a response from him.

Based on the poor workmanship of the job performed at our home on Friday 1-28, the issue with causing our hall bathroom toilet to begin leaking, chipping our hall tile, the failure of 2 scheduled appointments at our home, the failure to respond or return my calls, & the history of being late on 2 previous occasions to our home we are very concerned that he has taken our money & ran with the $500for services he has yet torender.

My husband has been forced to complete the services himself today in order to comply with our insurance company & allow them to come & photograph tomorrow, which Don was also made aware of in our phone conversation on Saturday & has disregarded. We feel that Don has not conducted business in a professionalor satisfactory manner. We now have to hirea plumber to come out & repair something that Don Benedict & his employee should be responsible for since they damaged it, along with the damaged tile they chipped.

I feel like such a fool for paying him in advance for services yet to be rendered especially when I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get him to return to repair my toilet that they damaged. My son was just released from the hospital & diagnosed with a chronic bowel disease & is in constant need of a toilet, the hardship this has caused him is disheartening! I hope that I can come back & give a positive update on this situation, but its not looking good so far.

I have learned a hard lesson this week. I wish I had researched Don Benedict before I hired & paid him. I only saw these other consumer complaintss after it was too late. Please do your research before hiring a contractor & beware when hiring Don Benedict's Company!
