My son brought his 2000 chevy malibu to a firestone in Clay, NY for an inspection. My son is a college student full time and works a part time job to pay for his car insurance and gas to get to and from school. When he arrived at Firestone at approx 5pm, 45 mins later they told him he needed to have new brakes to pass inspection, and if he didnt get them the car would have to be towed, as it could not go back on the road. The quoted him a price of 460.00. He called his grandfather and myself for advice. I said no way! His grandfather also said we should shop around. I would have called a tow truck and had it towed to another shop, but the manager insisted to my son this is the going rate. Then when they went to do the brake job, they found out the calipers were old and rusted and needed to be replaced another 300.00. Then when they were backing it out of the bay a brake line snapped, 40.00 more. Really???!!! I went crazy and drove up and started screaming at the manager. He tried to tell me earlier, you want your son to be safe dont you? Yes, of course, but I also dont want him to start his life off in debt to an 11yr old vehicle with 150,000 miles on it. He told me earlier that your son has a firestone credit card with 6 months interest free! Who gives a crap? Does that mean Firestone has the right to charge it up to its limit??? It was a simple inspection, and it turned into a nightmare. I am certainly disgusted in the way this company does business and will continue to tell as many people as I come in contact with, just that. Sorry Firestone, you should probably know that I work a retail job 8 hrs a day and probably come into contact with at least 100 people during that shift... Hopefully those 100 people will pass your dreadful business practices on to another 100 people each...
