I paid Tn-Roofing $2800 to install a roof on 7/19. They did not give me an install date that day. They did say that they had to allow the production coordinators to put me on the books. I waited a couple weeks just to get an install date only to be put off three times. They claimed we had too much rain in August and they were behind and on the second date they claimed the supplier didn't have my material. The Third date they installed the roof on 9/22 after about nine weeks. It took them a little while to get to me, I was just glad they did at that point.
I was told that the $2800 up front payment was for my supplies and a remaining insurance check of $1600 was to be payed when the job was complete. I sent themthe $1600 check on about 10/1 and never heard from them about my warranty papers or receipt.
On 10/14 I got a letter from the supply company: Roofing Supply of Atlanta, saying that they were going to put a lien on my house because the supplies had not been paid for. And that I needed to call Tn-Roofing and have them pay this bill. I felt helpless, after all, I did what I was supposed to do. I called State Farm and told them what had happend the rep told me that I was luckey and that they had not yet cashed the last check... So I had them put a stop payment on it. The insurance company is issuing me another check but it has my name and Tn-Roofing name on the check. I will not be able to cash it and pay for the supplies but I can hold it hostage until they pay the $2300 to their supplier. It's likely they wont pay up. They stand to loose more money paying the bill than just not collecting the cash?
I got a list of customers from the sales rep that sold me the roof (who no longer is employed) I called each of them and found that 7 out of 12 on the list had been beat as well. Three of the 12 had payed and not even gotten a roof at all. I've tried to contact the company about 20 times in the last 48 hours and left several messages. Some of the other victims have done the same. There are also other suppliers involved. They would run up a bill at one supplier and then get another one to extend them credit. One customer said he got a threatening lean notice form American Building Contractors of Atlanta. He said that the collections rep said they had over a 100 cases with the same stories. The same was said at Roofing Supply of Atlanta when I called them about their letter. My collection rep said it made the news in Atlanta but we've yet to hear about it in Tennessee. She said they shut their doors, she said she has sent people to the physical address to try to collect the outstanding debt but know answers the door. The phone recording has been modified form tn, Alabama roofing to just Georgia roofing.
I have talked to an attorney to see if i have any options. Based on what I know now, I would not advise any one to let these people on their property. Even if you do get a roof out of them you could end up like us with liens on your home because of their lack of paying their suppliers.
If I robbed YOU for $4400 i'd spend years in jail, these people robbed me with a pen and will likely file bankruptcy and get a fresh start on life... Go figure
