Complaint / Review
National Loan Investors of Oklahoma City
NLI Unethical Investment Company, Oklahoma City, OK

Our loan was recently acquired by National Loan Investors, and I tried to call them to ask about changing our payment due date, which is the 5th of the month, as we are on a fixed income, have 2 babies, 4 kids and are struggling to make ends meet due to the current economy and also the fact that escalating insurance premiums and taxes are hitting us hard (I don't get how the insurance companies can continue to substantially raise premiums and get away with it knowing that people are struggling to keep up with mortgages), and the fact that I lost my job.

I spoke to a Dwayne Horton, who is apparently the mortgage manager, and pleaded with him to take into account that we wanted to make payments but we were having a lot of difficulty and it would be helpful to have the payments due after the 1st week of the month, and his response was that he could do nothing and that it was our problem. He was very nasty and unconcerned, and when I asked him how it was that banks and mortgage companies were getting federal funds to help customers facing financial difficulties but he didn't care about helping us, he responded by stating that NLI was not a mortgage company but an investment fund, and therefore not bound by banking guidelines, so he didn't have to do ANYTHING to help us out.

Our payment is due by the 5th of the month, and this month (June) I called NLI on the 5th, which was a Saturday, and left a message that I was calling to pay but did not know that they were closed on Saturdays-also, they don't have a website where you can pay, so the only options you have are to mail it in or pay over the phone, but like I mentioned we aren't able to pay until the 5th, at the earliest.

The customer service person called me back on Monday and informed me that I was going to be charged a hefty late fee of $63, even though I had until the 5th to pay and I called them in good faith by the 5th to make a payment. I brought this to her attention, and she told me that there was nothing she could do, and she was told by Dwayne Horton to assess the late fee. I asked to speak to his superiors, but was told that he was it. This man is worse than the mafia-he could have cut us a little bit of slack, but apparently does not care.

At this point, we are in dire circumstances and are probably looking at foreclosure. It seems that NLI has had a lot of complaints lodged against them and I'm wondering why are they still in business making money off innocent people? Why hasn't any Governmental Agency shut them down? What about consumer watch dog groups? If someone reads this that has any means of shutting down NLI please don't let them get away with ruining people's lives.

Also, it seems that the CEO, Paul Heafy, is able to make contributions totaling over $51,000 to political candidates/campaigns, so I guess he's benefiting from running such an unethical company. Maybe he's paying people off so he doesn't get shut down, who knows!
