I have a policy with Old Republic for my pool. A few weeks ago, my pool control panel suddenly stopped working. I called them up. The person on the phone asked me what wasn't working, I said the pool control panel. They then asked is it remote control. I said I don't know what you call it, it's a electrical control panel installed inside the house to control to pump/pool light/heating ect. This person then stated so it's the remote control then quickly an smuggly pointed out to me remote control are not covered under the policy. I then said I don't know what went wrong. The panel didn't turned on. I don't know why it didnt' turn on. This person then said if I want they'll have a technician come out - of course their trade fee is $55.
OK, having a couple of bad experiences with this company: HIgh trade fees for their contractors who basically did nothing and made the wrong diagnosis, I figure I'd better off doing this on my own. So I found a licensed contractor for this particular brand of panel, they came out for a fee of $96. He figured out the problem was electrical. Basically one of the wires which came from the spa heater controller had water coming into it. It's all part of normal process, the switch is exposed to water and overtime it gets in the electrical board and caused it to turn off. He unplugged this wire and it worked again. The heater switch would have to be replaced. I haven't done this yet but at least for now I can control the rest of my pool from inside the house and save the cost of replacing the panel which their staff was so quick to point out to the tune of $1700.
