A and A Manufacturing, A & A MFG A&A produces junk that is not even worth $ 20 sells it for $ 400 - Our home almost burned down because of their negligence

We spent almost $ 30,000 for a pool that was finished in 2006 (about 2.5 years ago). We expected to get top quality products for the amount that we paid to Value Pools and ordered an "ozonator" (Quickpure II) for $ 400, - plus tax. Value pools told us that there was a lifetime warranty on the ozonator, knowing that they would go out of business soon. They never gave us a warranty card for this product.

When I saw this "ozonator" for the first time I thought that this was a joke. Basically it was just a tin box with a UV Bulb and a ballast inside. Dimensions aproximately 14" X 6" X 3". It has two holes, one on the bottom covered with a green translucent cap that indicates if the lamp inside is on or off. The other hole on the side is for a hose that leads the generated ozone into the pool. If I had seen this product before I would not have ordered it. Probably this can be made in China for less than $ 20, -.

I am guessing that A&A made a profit of 2000% when they sold us this product.

About a month after the equipment was intalled, someone from A & A manufacturing showed up and explained that he wanted to exchange the "ozonator" because of some reported problems. (we had not even called them)

The "Ozonator" failed about every 3 - 6 months and has been repaired about 5 times so far. Two times all the components (actually there are only two vital components, the bulb and the ballast) were exchanged, so that the product was basically new (except the tin box). Now, again the system stopped working. A&As response: "It is out of Warranty"

One time the "Ozonator" almost caused a fire because it was hooked up against A&As recommendation.instead of hooking up the hose to a standpipe, Value Pools had connected the hose directly to the pump. When the check valve broke of, allowing too much air to enter the hose and the pump, the pump ran dry and melted the PVC pipes. As we saw on other reports, it is a normal thing for the plastic check valves to fall apart after so many hours because the Ozone is extremely aggressive. Value Pools should have been advised by A&A not to connect the hose directly to the pump. A&A provided instructions to the contractors how to install their product and obviously they failed to give out any warnings. Our house could have burned down because of their negligence but when we called them they did not want to comment or to explain what kind of installation instructions they provide to contractors. We woke up in the middle of the night when we heard a screaming noise from the pump and where able to shut everything off at a point in time when the PVC pipes were already melted and when we saw smoke. If we had been travelling on that particular weekend we would have seen our home in ashes at our return.

Only after we filed a complaint with the registrar of contractors value pools corrected the installation. We never received any warnings from A&A or Value pools that the check valves only last a few months and that a broken check valve causes the pump to run dry, leading to melted or even burning PVC pipes.

I just went to their website and saw that obviously they don't sell the "Quikpure" systems anymore. Maybe for some reason???
