I am currently an employee of erie but that is a joke as they treat us more like independent contractors. I will quit very soon as i am enbarassed to work with an outfit like erie.
Erie generally runs an add in a local paper of a small town and uses catch phrases like "specialized financing and promotional offer" tricking the customers into thinking they will get a good deal. They call into the call center where someone will try at all cost to set an appointment even if it is not in the best interest of the customer and/or the sales rep.
The sales rep often drives hundreds of miles each day trying to make it to the appointments, i might add at his own expense and wear and tear on his own vehicle. I sold the roofs and the training was terrible but was designed to get to a close that night, period! Erie wants the sale closed at all cost and the 12 step selling system is designed to do just that. The price is designed to be dropped up to three times, each time creating more urgency to buy on the spot.
The bottom line is that the metal roof is a nice product but it is overpriced! The roof is not manufactured by erie as we were told in training and if you do some research on the internet it doesn't take long to realize that! The installers are not really employees as we were told in training but they do wear erie shirts and hats to give that appearance! Pretty much everything that a sales rep from erie tells the customer is somewhat misleading.
When a customer calls in to cancel the person that they are talkling to will do anything they can to keep the sale and often they will play on the customers emotions.
I could go on for a long time but i will stop. You might ask if i am a disgruntled employee and the answer is yes. I despise everything about erie and feel that i have really wasted my time with a company who cares about nothing but themselves.
Management certainly doesn't care about the sales force and that is evident in the astronomical turnover. They will nickel and dime you to death and unfortunately they screw with your pay far too often. One word of advice, if you are thinking about a career with erie, think again! They lied to me from the very first phone call! To the potential customers, run don't walk!
