If you like the smell of baked cat poop, this product is for you! I can't even begin to explain how fowl smelling this thing is. I had read glowing reviews on the net about the cat genie automated litter box. The reviews said that the product eliminated odors, cleaned the litter after each use and was convenient. I was intrigued by it, so I ordered one. They offered a 90 money back guarantee.
Buyer beware. The unit never worked right from the beginning. I suspect they sent me a "reconditioned" unit when I paid for a new unit. Getting a hold of someone at the company for help was frustrating. After days of attempting to contact them, I threatened to send it back. I finally got a call.
Here is my email to the company: "I'm returning our Cat Genie. I bought it 2/9/09 and I'm still within the 90 return period. It hasn't worked out for us. We started having mechanical problems. I called and was asked to leave a message, which I did. I sent an email asking for help. It wasn't responded to. I called again after waiting two days and had to leave another message. While this call was returned, it was returned when I specifically said I wouldn't be home.
So I called again and this time reached a cs rep. She told me what she thought the problem was... A defective water sensor... And told me to change it. Frankly, she rattled off instructions so quickly that I had no clue what she was talking about. So I had her repeat it, and that wasn't much better. I felt like she wanted to get me off the phone instead of making sure my Cat Genie worked. I haven't even had the thing 90 days and I'm already having problems. I'm not willing to risk almost $400 on a piece of equipment that's already having problems."
It was at this time they told me there would be a 20% "restocking" fee. Fine. I shouldn't have to pay for a defective product. But I was moving and Idid want the hassle. I was also informed that if I didn't clean the unit and return it in good shape, they would deduct additional monies. (None of this was mentioned up front when I ordered the thing.) I thoroughly cleaned the unit, carefully packed it and shipped it. I spent almost $400 for this horrible thing. My "refund"? $81. Yup.
When I complained, I was sent several pictures of the supposedly bad condition it was in when I sent it back. Frankly, I have no way of knowing that was even MY unit. I'm so very sorry I ever ordered one of these horrible things. To add insult to injury, I was informed that it would be a while before the refund would be made.in the meantime, possible consumers need to know that the stench was unbelievable. The cat genie can't clean out every speck of kitty poop. So at the end of the cleaning process when a hot blow dry of the litter occurs, you end up with baked cat poop. If you thought litter smelled bad, you ain't smelled nothin' yet!
