Bragada Memory Foam Mattress is a RIP OFF! Poughkeepsie

Bragada Memory Foam Mattress Rip Off Alert!!!

After doing very diligent research over the internet and reading endless reviews from both Bragada's corporate web site and other independent reviews from eopinions.com, I decided that memory foam must be the mattress for my wife and I. After all, there were so many five star reviews of their products, how could we go wrong? Let me tell you, all these positive reviews must have been written by Bragada employees because after owning one, I couldn't possibly see how anyone could give them a favorable review let alone a "glowing" one.

My hope is that people who stumble on to my complaint here will think twice about doing business with Bragada! Those of us who have been ripped off should get together and form a class action law suit against Bragada.

Here's the story...

In December we purchased a $1800 Bragada Vienna King Sized Mattress and Foundation from Bragada Mattress. I was assured that notification of delivery would be made prior to the bed and associated parts arriving by truck. Not so fast! I show up home one fine afternoon only to find several large boxes and what looked like a rolled up carpet in front of my door. Good thing the weather was nice because it could have just as easily been snowing or raining that day thus ruining my new bed. This is Colorado in the winter! Okay, the delivery wasn't notified. Big deal. Stuff happens, right? I think no harm, no foul. Let's just get the bed inside and get it set up.in retrospect, maybe having the stuff ruined by the weather and covered by insurance would have been the best thing that could have happened? Read on...

The first thing I noticed is that this mattress is heavy! I mean really heavy like a hernia maker in waiting! My wife and I horsed this darn burrito thing down the hall, around the corner and into the master bedroom. Good thing we don't have stairs! The 6' long burrito wrapped in plastic is actually the mattress that has been compressed by a machine and wrapped in plastic at the factory for shipping. When you carefully cut off the plastic (so you don't cut the mattress), the bed explodes open like a pent up clock spring. Three other boxes contained the box spring sets (two for a king size) and a set of "free" foam pillows. Assembly took about an hour from setting up the frame until finished. Now for the rest of the story...

How did it sleep? Well, the first few nights, it was really nice. Very comfortable and I thought that I'd made a good decision. My wife was also very happy with it. However, after about 3-4 weeks, I noticed that I was starting to settle into a "rut". Other people complaining have described this as the feeling of being in a "hammock." Since I don't own a hammock I can't really say for sure but to me, there is a depression or a sag present where the foam has memorized my body shape. I knew this wasn't normal so I emailed Bragada and asked what I could do to firm up (fix) the bed (as I knew that I couldn't return it)? I was advised to purchase a non-memory foam topper to go over the mattress and that would take care of the problem. That was easy for them to say since my wallet was now empty and they have all my money!

Resolved that I'd been thoroughly screwed, I started doing more research on foam mattresses and found latex toppers at sleeplikeabear.com. Evelyn with that company contacted me by email initially and then by telephone and gave me the low down memory foam mattresses vs. Latex foam mattresses. She explained that body heat and weight/mass make a big difference in whether or not you're going to be satisfied and comfortable on a memory foam mattress or not. The ILD of the Bragada mattress is a 14 (which is pretty much on the plush side). Memory foam mattresses can, depending on their quality and construction, retain the shape of the body's imprint for long periods of time if not forever! Evelyn suggested that I purchase two 2" latex foam toppers (one a 44 ILD and one a 36 ILD, very firm and firm respectively) to overlay the Bragada mattress to help isolate my body weight and warmth away from their memory foam. The hope was this would lessen the effects being experienced with sagging and rutting. This was not, incidentally without paying an additional $800 for the toppers! A very expensive (sort of) solution. Thanks Evelyn for trying to help me out of this mess!

After three weeks trying the toppers in different configurations, I can almost rest at night but I'm still having issues with body heat. When I go to bed, there's no problem at first but after a few hours, the body heat has caused the underlying Bragada memory foam to rut again. At least its not as noticeable as it was with only the bragada mattress. That's another thing. This mattress retains body heat like an oven. So, if you like to sleep cool, you'll need less covers and maybe even a ceiling fan for summer. Gee, I can hardly wait! Good thing Colorado summer nights are known for being chilly! The fact is that we should have bought a latex foam mattress instead of a memory foam. Two very different critters for sure! Hint! Hint!

I'm still not happy with this situation even though I've almost got a work-a-round figured out. The bottom line here is that Bragada mis-advertised their product! Made claims that aren't true! They don't offer a real warranty! They don't offer a trial use period! And their customer service sucks! If you're going to spend that much money, you should be able to demand satisfaction and I'm not getting it! I feel like I've been totally ripped off and I'd like to have our money back. I know that will never happen and that we're screwed! However, what I can do, in all good conscience, is make sure that the people who read this know what a terrible product and company that Bragada represents and warn you to avoid them like the plague!

NEVER buy anything worth this much money without actually physically being able to examine it with your own eyes and hands. Demand your right to return it if it isn't right! This probably means NOT purchasing your bedding over the internet. You need to go to a local store and look the people in the eye. It's harder for them to rip you off if they know you have their address! It's also much easier to sue them in small claims court if they're local instead of 3000 miles away in NY! So, buyer beware! You've been forewarned!

To Mr. Vincent Simmons, President of Bragada: If you have any integrity whatsoever, please arrange to have my mattress picked up and returned to your factory for a complete and total refund of the purchase price. I am totally and completely dissatisfied with my purchase! Har! That's a joke! Win pigs fly... Right?!

Everyone else: Don't say you weren't warned in advance!
