Have a new GE refrig/freezer with the drawwer on the bottom. The ice maker continues to make ic, even when the basket is full, and dumps ice cubes on the floor. The freezer drawer will not close until we remove the ice cubes from the floor (using a long handled "grabber"). GE sent a technician who said the ice maker needed to be replaced, which he did, but it did not correct the problem. The local dealer said he could do nothing and suggested I contact GE customer Service. They told me to turn off the ice maker when the basket was full and turn it on when I needed more ice. This involves removing frozen food from a shelf in front of the ice maker, removing the shelf and turning off the unit - then reverse the process - a very ridiculous solution. I wrote to the president of GE and he had an associate call me and tell me to turn off the ice maker.
This is a poorly designed ice maker and certainly not what one would expect from a company that has been producing ice makers for decades. GE will do nothing about it - they won't stand behind their product.
