I was planning on getting a new Stihl brand string trimmer next spring as my old one is about shot. My wife said she saw a sign at the Farmer's Co-op advertising Stihl string trimmers on sale now. Being it is the end of October, I figured I would get a good price since string trimmers are not in demand during the winter. I made the 20 mile drive to the co-op and went inside and saw the price of the trimmer I wanted was still the same as it had always been. I asked the salesman what the sale price was and he stated it was the price marked on it. When I pointed out that price was the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) and the same price they have always been, he said "yeah, they are always on sale". He later claimed the sign had been up for months and he had forgotten to take it down. That was a lie because the sign wasn't up last week.
The guy talked to me like he thought I was an idiot. I've spent a lot of money at the co-op over the years but will never set foot on their property again. They are just trying to rip off someone who doesn't know what the prices should really be and make them thing they are getting a deal when they are not.
