Complaint / Review
Public Storage
Illegal lien sale

I am going to keep this brief, factual, and to the point.

I rented a self-storage unit from Public Storage beginning on 6/16 when I moved from a home that I had been renting. Everything that I have ever owned was placed there.

I had allowed my account to become very delinquent in the past, as much as 54 days late but I always paid my total due and was always able to keep a good relationship with the manager.

On July 11th my account had become past due for 41 days (all of June and 11 days into July) when I made a payment of $200.00 (rent was 191.00 per month so I basically paid June) and told the manager that I would have the July payment by the end of the month. On 7/28 I made a $100.00 payment through their night drop with a note that the rest would be a day or 2 (the rest was a total of $157.00 by their records but $118.50 actually). They credited the $100.00 to my account and left me a balance of a half of July plus fees.

On 7/29 they sold the entire contents of my unit for $430.00. They then sent me a check for $220.97.

I researched my state's laws regarding this and I discovered that they are not allowed to sell the contents unless someone is more than 45 days late. I was only a few days late.

I would like to know if there is a Consumer Law Attorney in the Louisville KY area that would like to review my records. I know that the laws are written in their favor, but I can clearly prove that they have overstepped what is allowed by KRS 359.
