It was very clear that door trim was not to be worked in our verbal contract to remove and replace (10) interior doors at $75 each. This was a deep discount rate for removal and installation and under bid but I followed through. It was noted the 25 year old house had structural defects that would affect the way each door would fit. The client insisted on not replacing each jamb, only the door. All doors were verified for function only and not for fit. Each door was hung based on the original door used as a pattern. The lock-set installation was an extra charge. Client accepted the work completed as of 8/3 by payment.
Then, by client's written request I removed the doors on the second floor and accomplished by the following Friday 8/10, per the client's schedule. A displeased client would have never made a request for additional work beyond the first week nor would they recommend my services to a potential client. This client refused to pay the amount owed on his bill because the doors did not fit to his unspecified tolerances.
