I contacted the company from a Web site http://www.thedownstore.com/. I placed a call on 4/06 to place the order of 1 (One) down comforter. I spoke to a sale person named Milo who was trying to up-sale me on a promotional items that included what I was ordering but was twice the price. I explained I did not have the money and I only wanted the one item. He asked if I would consider the package and I said I would think about it but I really wanted the one item for now. I was told they would only take payment by check which was $1,000 for the one item and I would receive my merchandise in 2-3 weeks which was 04/29.
I mailed a check the next day. I never receive the product or the documentation of my order. I phoned on 05/12 to check on the order and was told there was an error in the quote. I've had several conversations trying to resolve this issue but with no luck to date. I phoned and requested documentation and specification of the order. They said the person I spoke to (Milo) was no longer there but I recognized the voice and know it was the same person but he claimed his name was James Wright.
When I call the phone number 800-usadown (800-872-3696) a man answers Corporate when I ask if it is Down Canada he gets mad give me the run around. After continuing to call and sending emails to another address on their web site I finally got an email response 06/10 from"Lisa Stevens" who claimed the order # 4866 was a lay a way and it was a promotion for several items that included one of the items I ordered and to get it I have to pay for a balance of $985 payable to Down Canada. I sent an emails to [email protected] which was returned deliver failure.
I finally called another number 212-840-2550 which I found from an old record where they had returned my call before I sent the check. A man answers Customer Service when I ask if it is Down Canada he gets mad give me the run around an I recognize the voice and know it is the same person but he claimed his name was Steve Talbot. I realized this is a total scam.
In 2007 I called a few times but I gave up but it keeps bothering me that I was taken advantage of an other people are probably being ripped off as well. I contacted them and asked for the order to be put on a credit card or sent COD. They refused.
Today I sent an email to Lisa Stevens [email protected] telling her again it was NOT a lay away and she has no documentation from me or signature stating that it is and to send me something valued at the $1,000 that I paid and I would consider ordering more. Please contact me and let me know if I should walk away from my $1,000 and look at it as a learning experience to never send a check through the mail.
I filed a complaint for Postal Fraud today 02/07
