Another Katrina victim taken advantage of

May 6—2008

She has been stranded in a two bedroom FEMA trailer since Katrina in 05.
She is 81 years old & having permant custody of a 4 and 5 year old.
My granny walks into a decent mobile home center, searching for a new home. She is introduced to an eager face. The salesman ("kit").

After many arrangments my granny buys a 10 year old trailer for $40,000, also paying an extra 800 for beautiful french doors to be intacked in place of old sliding door.

After the trailer was purchased he called asking for more money saying " i missed valued the home, i could loose my job". My granny replied with " just ripp the contract up because i have no more money, i do not want anyone in trouble". Kit said "no no no i'll call you back" then the owner called my granny saying she needed more money because Kit undercharged her. Granny told her the same thing she told Kit. Then all of a sudden they did'nt need anymore.

Kit promises many things for this so called "trailer"."We clean our houses so well, we use tooth brushes. The trailer has never been water damaged. The A/C will deffinatly work, and everything pointed out to be fixed will be, you have my word."

It took two weeks for this mobile home to be delivered to the proper location, when it was promised to be deliverd in one week. While Kit's crew were trying to move it, a man fell through this "reconstruted home", AFTER it was delivered. That day my granny & I walk in, hopeing to be surprised with how great it looked.

What a shock we were in! NOTHING had been touched! We seen no evidince of fine tooth brush cleaning, there was still molded food in the kitchen drawers! Not only that but the main living room wall had fallen. The refrigorater had been swiched for a old broken down one, it didn't even have freezer parts!

The floors by the sliding glass door was rotting, you could stick your fingers through the floor! They patched that up with some pliwood OVER the rotting wood. The carpet wasn't even touching the sliding glass door. The tiling for the kitchen was not even glued, it was just placed there over the old dirty floor.

The A/C unit has numerous holes in it, which was suppost to be replaced. We called an A/C company to come out & he said it was a "hunk of junk" & that it would never work.

You could go on & on about so many more uncompleted promises.

Now were almost in July, my granny still is not moved in to her well payed for home.

Still in FEMA trailer with these two small children.

I do not know how the people at Prime Housing could sleep at night knowing they took advantage of an 81 year old lady.

It will never pass an inspection from the planning commistion, so theres no telling how long it will be before her home is completed.

They have not been here in almost two weeks to complete there promises.
