Public Storage
Poor business practices

We have had nothing but problems from these people from day one. My husband made a reservation over the phone to their national reservation center. We reserved a unit for the $1.00 for the first month deal. We were only going to use the unit for a few months while staying with my parents, so we could find another house.

We arrived at the facility we had the reservation with, and the man was ready to show us the size unit we reserved to make certain it would fit our needs, then we gave him our confirmation number and he obviously saw that we had the $1.00 for the first month, he all of a sudden had none that size. Of course he did have some larger, but could not offer us the same $1.00 for the first month.

My husband got on the phone and ended up finding a very nice lady at another Public Storage and she honored the $1.00 for the first month on a larger unit for us, because she felt we were wronged. We thought it was great that someone with integrity was running our facility. Well, she is not the only manager at that facility. We were a few days late one month and a manager called my husband and threatened to sell our stuff if we did not come in and pay right away. My husband called and made a complaint against this man on how he handled the situation and how he talked to my husband. My husband went to check on our stuff one day and could not get into the gate. So he asked another lady, one he had never seen before, why his access code was not working. She informed him they do that if you have late fees or are late. He walked in and checked on our belongings.

He then went to pay off all late fees and get everything up to date, whether or not we felt we owed them, because they have our stuff. The man he made a complaint against had cut our lock (which there is another hole so they can lock us out), he needed to to gain access to our unit. He went in went through our stuff, for an inventory.

We now have to replace the lock, which we spent a lot of money on, so no one could cut it. We have found out through the first lady who was so nice, and who is just as mad as we are at this man, that there were other people who were on the list to have their locks cut because they were 90 days or more past due that were not cut, just us and we only owed late fees. We were not even in the pile of people to be called, because we owed money.

My advice to anyone who has their belongings in Public Storage, get your stuff out first, then make your complaint if you have one. Judging from my problems and others I have read they do not follow guidelines, and anyone could enter your PRIVATE storage unit, and go through or sell your stuff just because they feel like it.
